Pre-care & Aftercare instructions

The success of any cosmetic tattoo procedure also relies on you as the client to conscientiously follow through with the pre-care and aftercare advice provided as listed below:

Pre-care instructions

  • Scrub your lips for a week leading up to your appointment to optimize your results as areas of dry skin will not pick up or retain colour
  • Keep your lips moisturised and hydrated
  • Lip filler or any treatments need to be done at least 2 weeks prior to the appointment
  • Avoid any blood thinners 48 hours prior (such as aspirin/ibuprofen) as they increase bleeding during the procedure however consult with your doctor before discontinuing any prescribed medication
  • No caffeine or alcohol 24 hours prior to the appointment
  • If you are prone to getting cold sores please visit your pharmacist and take a prescribed anti-viral medication a week before your appointment

Aftercare advice

  • The procedure will create an open wound so it is important to keep the area clean by gently wiping with a clean tissue or wet wipe
  • Your lips will feel dry and tight so keep the area moisturized by regularly applying aftercare balm with clean freshly washed hands or a cotton tip
  • Swelling and light bruising may occur so ice packs will provide a nice relief
  • DO NOT scrub, rub or pick any dead skin or crust that forms
  • Avoid any hot, salty, spicy or oily foods while healing as they may irritate and inflame the lips
  • No kissing etc and do not use makeup on the area for 3 days
  • No smoking during the healing process as it can cause pigmentation and darken the lips
  • No lip filler until at least 4 weeks after the procedure
  • Avoid direct sunlight and sweating as bacteria in sweat may cause an infection
  • Always use sun protection after the procedure to protect from sun fading
  • Book a touch up appointment for 6-8 weeks post the initial appointment (8-12 weeks for dark lip correction) to perfect the final colour
