frequently asked questions
What is lip blush?
Lip blush is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo procedure that uses a unique shading and pixelating technique to achieve a natural tinted lip colour.
It is an amazing way to:
- Help improve the shape of the lips and enhance lip symmetry
- Add colour and definition for a natural looking result
- Create the illusion of fuller more voluminous lips
- Colour correct scars and uneven pigmentation
- Promote healthy collagen production
- Save you time as you wake up with a beautiful tint on your lips without needing to apply any product
Am I eligible to undergo the cosmetic procedure?
Please refer to the terms and policies to see if you meet the criteria for this procedure.
How long is the procedure and is it painful?
The initial procedure will be roughly 2-3 hours with the touch up sessions being 1-1.5 hours.
It is essentially a tattoo on the lips so there will be some level of pain involved however rest assured the pain is very minimal as medical grade topical numbing is used.
What colours can I choose?
The possibilities are endless! Come in with some photos of your desired lip colour or we can customize one to your liking from a range of nudes, pink, reds and preaches.
During the consult we will discuss what colours you like as well as what colours and tones would complement your skin tone and complexion.
How long will the results last?
With proper care and maintenance, the results can last 3-5 years. Annual touch ups are recommended to prolong the results as well as give your lips a colour boost to keep them looking fresh and youthful.
What is the healing process like? Do I need to take time off?
The healing process will vary between each client but generally will last between 5-8 days.
- Immediately after – your lips may be slightly swollen and in some cases some minor bruising may occur
- Day 1-2 – swelling will start to subside but lips will feel very tight and dry
- Day 3-6 – this is when your lips will start to scab and the dry skin will eventually flake off
Most clients will not need any downtime or need to take time off from their usual daily routine however if you do have an upcoming event please do take the healing process into consideration before booking.
Do I need a touch up?
A touch up is highly recommended 6-8 weeks after the initial procedure. It is normal for the colour to fade 40-60% after your first appointment hence why it is important to come back for a touch up so we can target any areas of uneven colour and perfect the final result.
Some clients will require multiple sessions to achieve their desired lip colour. Most notably required for dark lips as the first session will be spent neutralizing the lips with subsequent sessions to brighten with the desired lip colour. With dark lip corrections we need to allow a minimum of 8-10 weeks between the peocedures to give the lips sufficient time to properly heal.
Can I get lip blush if I have dermal filler?
Yes definitely. The combination of lip blush and filler look amazing! Over the years with filler the borders of the lips start to soften so lip blush is the perfect way to refine those contours and add definition.
Any lip filler needs to be done at least 2 weeks prior to your lip blush appointment or 4 weeks after.
I am prone to getting cold sores. Will the procedure trigger an outbreak?
Cold sore outbreaks are often triggered by stress or trauma to the lips and skin. If you have ever had a cold sore in your life, even if has only been once, you must take your prescribed anti-viral medication a week before your appointment and a week after your procedure to prevent an outbreak.
Cold sores can result in loss of pigment and even lead to scarring so it is imperative you do not skip this step!
